The City of Cripple Creek and The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument are west of Chipita Park. Gold was discovered in Cripple Creek in 1891 and transformed the city into a gold camp. Many recreational activities are available in Cripple Creek. You can visit the Mollie Kathleen mine, go horseback riding, mountain biking tours, or visit the city's many museums. The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument has indoor and outdoor activities and tours available.
